Hard Boiled Egg #momhack101

How to Remove Egg Shell Easily by Using Cold Water and Ice Cubes

One of the easiest and yet most difficult tasks is removing the egg shell flawlessly.

If you make a mistake while removing the shell, you will end up with a scarred egg that doesn’t look appealing. You could even lose a huge portion of the egg in worse cases. 🙈

I personally LOVE hard boiled eggs. I have 1 (sometimes 2) every single day, from Monday to Friday. Every Monday and Wednesday, I make 4-6 of them. They are perfect for times when I “forget” to eat and/ or don’t have “time” to eat. As moms, this happens to the best of us! I’m sure you can relate.

A lot has been written in cookbooks and various other sources on the best methods of removing the egg shell easily. I think one of the best, quickest and easiest ways of removing the shell, is by using cold water and ice cubes.

Yes, cold water! Yes, Ice cubes!

Enjoy! 🙂

Fill a pot with water and boil your eggs.

Once the eggs are cooked, remove the pot from the heat, empty out the boiling water, and put the pot (with eggs) in the sink – this is what I do.

You can also transfer the eggs to a different pot, saucepan, or bowl. Add cold water. The cold water should be at a little more then half way full, covering the eggs.

Add ice cubes!

I put about 5-10 small cubes. Just enough to fill my pot completely, covering all the eggs.

Allow the eggs to cool in the water for about 5 minutes. You can let it chill longer if you wish.

Five minutes does the trick for me! 🙂

Drain the cold water.

Once the eggs have cooled, drain the cold water. Make sure the pot (or wherever you put your eggs), is totally free of water. You can also use a paper towel to dry them, if you wish.

Start cracking. 🥚

Now, just crack away, one at a time. The shell almost fully comes off right away! You can run more cold water (if needed) and remove the cracked shell while rinsing if you’d like.

It’s that easy! Seriously! 🙂

Check out my 1 minute video cracking tutorial (real time).

With this method, rest assured that your boiled eggs will be smooth and free of any defect. This method is fast, easy and can be used anytime.

I hope you enjoyed and found value from this. If so, feel free to drop a comment and share it with your friends and family!
